Who's Jesus? What's a Cross? What's that book you're holding? All questions from an 8 year old in my community.

Last week we held our first in person Holiday Club (VBS for all you readers over the pond) in our normal venue in 4 years! We had a blast with the over 50 kids that attended through the week. Along with games and crafts, skits and glitter (obviously), we were able to share the Gospel with each of them.
We've always had kids from non-church backgrounds attend as we promote it well in the local community, but this year we were struck as to just how 'unchurched' some of them actually were. Usually we're able to connect some dots between Easter, Christmas, good and bad but this year was different. One 8 year old had never heard the Christmas story and had no idea what a cross was. even the concept of good and bad had to be broken down into more relatable terms...[cue blank looks on leaders faces as we scramble to make some connection]...
... and there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord... (Judges 2:10)
To be honest it's not surprising since this age group in particular would have missed out on the normal early school year nativity plays due to lockdown. And with schools tending to confine this topic to earlier years only it's no wonder these questions were being asked. It's also entirely likely that the last people in the family to have been a regular church-goer would have been great grandparents.
For myself and the rest of the team it was a wakeup call. We are all called to go and make disciples (Matthew 28:19). If we don't go, who will?
I have a heart to share the Gospel with those who've never hear it before. Some are called to go and some are called to send (Romans 10:13-15). If you're called to send, why not prayerfully consider sending me through partnership.
